The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall—AV Wall will be on display at the 2017 MCAS Miramar Air Show, Sept. 22-24, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Col. Jason Woodworth, and the commanding general of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Maj. Gen. Mark Wise, invite the public to attend the 2017 MCAS Miramar Air Show.

The theme of this year’s air show is “A Salute to Vietnam Veterans.”

“The 2017 MCAS Miramar air show gives the public and current service members an opportunity to say thank you to the veterans of the Vietnam War,” said Woodworth. “Our goal is to remind the veterans that the country cares about them and truly values the sacrifice they made for the American people, regardless of how they were treated when they originally returned from Vietnam.”

The AV Wall will be displayed inside of the Air Show Expo Building, along with the Living History Experience powered by ABC 10 News. In partnership with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration Office, Vietnam Veteran lapel pin presentations will take place at The AV Wall daily at 10:15 a.m. and 1:55 p.m.

The Living History Experience will feature a daily speaker, opportunities for Vietnam veterans to tell their stories on film, and opportunities for the public to film personalized messages of thanks to those who have served.

“It is an honor to bring The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall to the 2017 Miramar Air Show. Our replica will be viewed by thousands of people who may never get a chance to visit the Memorial in Washington D.C. We encourage everyone to visit our display to pay tribute to those who have given their lives in service to their country,” said AV Wall President Mike Bertell.

The Air Show will also showcase the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team and the Patriots Jet Team. Both jet teams are sure to impress in what will be thrilling performances of fast-paced, formation flying and choreographed aerobatic maneuvers. Additionally, MCAS Miramar is honored to host an amazing line up of civilian performers, including Sean Tucker’s “Oracle Challenger,” John Collver’s “Wardog,” the Shockwave Jet Truck and Steve Stavrakakis’ “Tribute to Vets.”

The air show is free to the public; however, upgraded seating options are on sale now. The Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall—AV Wall is a grassroots effort conceived, funded, and built by citizens of the Antelope Valley and was dedicated in 2009. The AV Wall is maintained and traveled by an all-volunteer organization. It is one of only five traveling walls in the United States, and the only one based on the West Coast.

The AV Wall is an exact half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. and is with the names of the 58,318 military members who were killed in action or declared missing in action during the Vietnam War.
