Legacy Commons in Palmdale will host its annual fitness walk and continental breakfast on May 25 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
Sponsored by High Desert Medical Group, the event will begin with a stretching warm up, followed by a walk from Legacy Commons to Poncitlan Square and back. Participants will receive a T-shirt and enjoy a light breakfast on the Legacy Commons patio following the walk. There will also be lawn games including bocce ball and horseshoes. You must register in advance to receive the T-shirt.
“You don’t have to go fast, you just have to go,” said Laura Rice, recreation coordinator at Legacy Commons. “Studies have shown that even a 10-minute walk immediately improves brain chemistry to increase happiness.”
Legacy Commons, 930 E. Avenue Q-9, provides adults 55 years and older with the opportunity to remain “young at heart” with a wide range of drop-in activities in a modern, contemporary environment. There are fitness and exercise classes, visual and performing arts programs, informational seminars and special interest groups. Walking paths and picnic tables are adjacent to the facility which is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
