The Lancaster Museum of Art and History, 665 W. Lancaster Blvd., will host tomorrow through July 30 “Made in the Mojave,” a unique exhibit showcasing the wonders of the Mojave Desert.
“Made in the Mojave” celebrates the subtle beauty, rich history and plentiful resources of Southern California’s Mojave Desert. The exhibit focuses on the desert landscape interpreted through a variety of media including painting and photography, and is presented by the museum in hopes of awakening a new-found appreciation for the nuanced splendor of the natural environment.
Featured solo artists will include Samantha Fields, Kim Stringfellow, Carol Es, Catherine Ruane, Aline Mare, Ron Pinkerton and Nicolas Shake. There will be site-specific installations by Randi Hockett and local artist Marthe Aponte.
The exhibit will include professional art presentations, including the work of students from R. Rex Parris High School who will showcase their “Wasteland” project to be displayed on a rooftop terrace. The museum’s Green Initiative Wasteland project was led by Los Angeles artist Nicolas Shake who worked in conjunction with the high school art instructor, Kris Holladay, and her students to create the piece.
In other museum news, the facility will join with the Lancaster Public Art Foundation to host tomorow’s fifth annual Mother’s Day Tea from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Samantha Fields will be present to talk about the upcoming art exhibit; there will be a fashion show, champagne reception and multi-course brunch featuring fresh produce from local farms.
