Firefighters finished off a three-alarm brush fire Thursday that had been burning since Sunday in Santa Clarita and scorched 760 acres.
The fire was sparked by a traffic crash on the southbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway near the Sierra Highway off-ramp near Placerita Canyon Road.
The crash caused a tree to catch fire and the flames spread toward Disney Ranch, sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said. One structure was destroyed, she said.
As of early Thursday, the fire was out, said a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries in the fight, one of them heat-related, authorities said.
The blaze caused a 20-minute power outage at Disney Ranch for 76 homes on Sunday afternoon due to an overhead equipment failure.
The fire also prompted the California Highway Patrol to shut down the Antelope Valley Freeway southbound at San Canyon Road and northbound at Newhall Avenue for nearly three hours on Sunday afternoon.
At various times, nearly 500 firefighters from various agencies were assigned to the firefighting effort, including personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service. Also, four water-dropping helicopters and two fixed-winged aircraft were involved in the effort.
No civilian injuries were reported.
