Just in time for the Independence Day holiday, the city of Palmdale will kick off its summer series of concerts at the Palmdale Amphitheater with a Freedom Symphony patriotic salute tomorrow featuring the West Coast Classical Orchestra. Admission and parking are free.

The Alley Cats, a popular a cappela comedy group, will open the show, followed by the West Coast Classical Orchestra and a selection of numbers that celebrate America.

“What a perfect way to celebrate our nation’s birthday—a family picnic on a beautiful Palmdale summer evening, listening to a truly funny a cappela group and a renowned orchestra performing patriotic classics,” said Keri Smith, director of the Palmdale Recreation and Culture Department.

The Alley Cats have been Jay Leno’s opening act for many years, and have also opened for Jerry Seinfeld, Joan Rivers and have made numerous television appearances. Their brand of musical comedy has been a favorite at venues around the world, and they have performed alongside The Beach Boys, The Coasters and The Drifters. Notably, The Alley cats were featured with Jay Black as The Americans on the TV special “Pop, Rock and Doo-Wop,” and have entertained U.S. service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan, and have also performed at the White House.

West Coast Classical is a nonprofit organization that provides access to the musical arts for persons of all backgrounds and skill levels who seek to achieve excellence in orchestral, ensemble and classroom experiences. The musicians range in age from 10 to 70 years, however students are the organization’s main persuit as it strives to introduce more young people to music. They perform regularly at the Palmdale Playhouse.
