A Lancaster man fatally shot his wife outside a neighbor’s home earlier this week before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.

The woman and her husband were both pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:20 a.m. shooting in the 6300 block of Starview Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The woman was identified as 35-year-old Jamie Matthews. The gunman was 39-year-old Clyde Matthews.

Deputies who responded to a medical emergency call found the woman dead of at least one gunshot wound to the upper body, according to a sheriff’s statement. They then found the shooter inside the couple’s residence with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The preliminary investigation revealed the couple had gotten into an argument, and the woman left the residence to go to a neighbor’s house, according to the sheriff’s department.

Her husband followed and shot her in front of the neighbor’s residence, then returned to their home and shot himself, investigators said. No one else was inside the home, when the shooting occurred.

The names of the woman and man were not immediately released.
