The Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce will hold its 84th Annual Anniversary Awards Gala from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 30 at the Intercontinental Hotel Los Angeles Century City at Beverly Hills.
This chamber will recognize some of its community’s distinguished leaders and visionaries at the gala. The honorees are the Hon. Nate Holden who will receive the Living Legend Award; KarLee Young of the Crenshaw Yoga and Dance Center who will receive the Pioneer of the Year Award and Alex Warren of The ED Center who will receive the Member of the Year Award.
Chamber President Armen Ross said the honorees’ contributions to the community reflect the mission of the chamber. “We’re so proud of this year’s honorees because they demonstrate the commitment and possess the passion that has helped our community to progress,” said Ross.
Holden served four years as a California State Senator, 12 years as the Assistant Chief Deputy to Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn and 16 years as a member of the Los Angeles City Council’s 10th District, he embodies the spirit of the chamber’s Living Legend Award.
“I’m very honored and privileged to be selected to receive the Living Legend Award…,” said Holden. “During those years of public service, I was affiliated with a number of Chambers of Commerce. Crenshaw was my favorite,” he said, adding that he has been a member since 1968.
One of the key building blocks of a community is having fitness outlets. Since opening the Crenshaw Yoga and Dance Studio in 2004, Young has offered affordable yoga, dance, and fitness classes. “I chose a location in the Crenshaw area for several reasons,” said Young. “… I wanted to offer a place of refuge, of growth and support where the disadvantaged, seniors and the disenfranchised are able to come together for socialization, health, and healing.”
In keeping with the gala’s theme of “Developing Young Minds for the Future,” the chamber will renew its support of The ED Center by donating part of the gala’s proceeds to the non-profit organization. In addition, they will honor Warren, the center’s founder.
The proceeds will help fund The ED Center’s science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and sustainability programs, as well as the Sanctuary of Hope which assists transition-age youth coming out of foster care in their quest to become outstanding citizens of the community.
