The Antelope Valley is among the southland’s most warm and inviting locales for outdoor music. This summer, the BLVD in downtown Lancaster will present a variety of acts as part of the Sierra Toyota Summer Concert Series co-sponsored by BeX Bar and Grill.

The weekly music festival begins at 6 p.m. June 15 with Queen Nation, a tribute band to the late Freddy Mercury and Queen. Look for renditions of your favorite Queen songs such as “Somebody to Love,” “Killer Queen” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

On July 13, The Walking Phoenixes will pay tribute to the late Johnny Cash and perform some of the country legend’s biggest hits such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line” and  “Ring of Fire.” The Fulcos, described as a rock ‘n roll “family band,” will perform on Aug. 3, and Mirage (Sept.14), a Fleetwood Mac tribute band whose name was taken from the group’s multi-platinum 1982 album, will perform favorites such as “Gypsy,” “Dreams” and “Say You Love Me.” Other groups performing this summer include Green Central Station (June 22), Jukebox Blender (June 29), The Roby Duron Band (July 6), and Jacob Nelson and the Tone Wanglers on July 20.

Performances will take place at the BLVD Bandstand stage at the corner of Ehrlich Avenue and Lancaster Boulevard. Food and beverages will be available at the BeX patio; organizers suggest you bring along a folding lawn chair or beach blanket.

Not to be outdone, Palmdale will host 10 free “Music In The Park” concerts this summer from June 15 through Aug. 17, alternating between Poncitlan Square at 9th Street between Avenue Q-9 and Avenue Q-10, and at Domenic Massari Park, 37716 55th St. East.

The Dance Band will perform R&B favorites June 15 at Poncitlan Square. Other acts include Moma’s Hot Sauce and their brand of rockabilly  on June 22 at Domenic Massari Park, Lorena Mackey and the Hi-Lites (R&B classics) June 29 at Poncitlan Square, The Fulcos (pop/rock) July 6 at Domenic Massari Park, and the country sounds from Runaway, on the evening July 13 at Poncitlan Square. The music begins at 5:30 each night.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or beach blanket, and outside food is allowed, but no alcoholic beverages. Food trucks will be present as well.
