The Palmdale Neighborhood Services Department will host the annual National Night Out event from 4 to 8 p.m. on July 26 at Domenic Massari Park, 37716 55th St. East in Palmdale.

The festivities will be conducted on the west side of the park, near the skate park. Representatives of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s and fire departments will present a variety of public safety displays and lectures; live music, a rock climbing wall, and relay races will be featured. As well, those present may test their strength with a “Bearcat Pull” and also participate in the good-natured “Dunk-A-Cop” tank.

“We had an amazing turnout last year and we are excited about an even bigger event this year,” said Ruth Oschmann, Palmdale crime prevention specialist. “We are encouraging residents to come out, bring the family and some chairs and enjoy the music and the opportunity to get to know the first responders in their community. The party will conclude with a walk around the park from 7:30 to 8 p.m. by residents, city staff and law enforcement. We hope as many people as possible will stay and join us.”

National Night Out is a nationwide crime and drug prevention awareness campaign designed to generate support for and participation in anti-crime efforts. It strengthens neighborhood spirit and partnerships between law enforcement and the community, while sending a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized against crime.

Palmdale residents are encouraged next month to turn on their outside lights and spend some time with their neighbors, many of whom will be hosting special events such as block parties, cookouts and forming Neighborhood Watch groups under the guidance of the city’s crime prevention staff and Sheriff’s deputies.
