The Grio reports:

A family in Fishers, Indiana would like to know who left a nasty note in their mailbox. The typed letter listed the cost of not taking care of their lawn and told the family they weren’t living in the ghetto. The Sullivan family feels that they were targeted because they are black.

“The biggest thing is just disheartening,” Chris Sullivan stated.

He found the folded letter in his mailbox on Wednesday.

“(I) opened it started reading the first few lines and checked to see if anybody was watching and I finished it and was just like here we go,” Sullivan said.

The letter was a page long and slammed Sullivan’s yard. It said he needed to mow it and get rid of the weeds before saying, “This isn’t the Ghetto and your home looks trashy.”

“Sucks that it happened to me, sucks that it happens to anybody in 2017,” Sullivan said.

A couple of their neighbors said they didn’t see the letter as an attack. The letter said it was from the neighborhood Britton Ridge association but Sullivan isn’t buying that.

“There’s not a lot of bad apples, there are probably just one or two,” Sullivan said.

The family moved to Fishers a couple of months ago from California in order to be closer to family.

“In the end result you can’t fight fire with fire, there’s other ways to go about it and that’s what I intend on doing,” he said.

Sullivan would like the person that sent the letter to know that they don’t have to be rude, they could just try acting like a neighbor.

“We are not moving and if you had enough courage you would just say hello and ask me to trim my tree down. I’m human, I eat, breath, sleep just like you do.”
