Applications for the Summer Coding Leadership Academy (SCLA) are open. The deadline to apply is March 9 by 5 p.m.
SCLA is an intensive 12-week computer science and entrepreneurship program for low-income young men of color between grades eight and 12. Called the “Navy Seals” of tech training in Los Angeles, SCLA participants, will have 12 weeks to build a tech start-up business and create a product that solves a problem in their community. The young men in the program become more than coders: they are leaders and entrepreneurs who learn to overcome any obstacle. At the end of the summer, coders could win $4,000 for their start-up and a tour of Silicon Valley’s colleges and top tech companies.
By the end of the summer coders will also: build web and mobile apps; learn about computer science and entrepreneurship; network with tech professionals; develop resilience, grit, and confidence; and make life-long connections.
Teachers, educators and community members who know young men of color between the 8th and 11th grades, should encourage them to apply online at exploringtech.org/scla.
In addition, TXT is seeking fellows, and the successful candidate can-based on his/her performance in the three-month commitment, you will receive a maximum stipend of $800, and will be able to network with professionals from top tech companies.
