An SUV struck a utility pole earlier this week, then smashed into a church in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. Monday at 55th Street and Holmes Avenue, said Officer G. Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton Station.
Before hitting the church, the SUV struck a utility pole, downing power lines, which had to be deactivated, he said.
The suspect got out of the SUV and fled before officers arrived, Lopez said. No injuries were reported.
Officers were investigating whether the vehicle was used in a crime before the crash, Lopez said.
