The Palmdale City Library will host the next meeting of the African American Book Club to discuss the novel “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi on Aug. 15, at 6:45 p.m.
One of Oprah’s 10 Favorite Books of 2016, “Homegoing” is the story of two half-sisters, separated by forces beyond their control: one sold into slavery, the other married to a British slaver. Tracing the generations of family who follow, the story follows them to two continents and through 300 years of history.
The next evening, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m., the Mystery, Murder and Mayhem book club will discuss “Malice” by Keigo Higashino. This meeting will take place at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Hwy.
Acclaimed bestselling novelist Kunihiko Hidaka is found brutally murdered in his home on the night prior to his leaving Japan for Vancouver. The body is found in his locked office—inside the his locked home—by his wife and his best friend, both of whom have rock solid alibis. Or so it seems.
Higashino is chiefly known for his mystery works with “Malice” being his first work starring protagonist, Detective Kaga.
The African American Book Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:45 p.m. The Mystery, Murder and Mayhem book club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. New members are invited to any meeting.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
