A Palmdale shoplifter—on his third “strike”—has been sentenced to 47 years to life imprisonment.

Forty-two-year-old Geoffrey “Spanky” Bueno received the long sentence after shoplifting at a Palmdale hardware store and then fighting with security personnel. Bueno was first convicted in 1993 of voluntary manslaughter for being the driver in a gang-related shooting. In 2009, he was convicted of second-degree robbery for shoplifting and, again, fighting with security guards.

In March 2014, Bueno was on parole for the 2009 robbery case and went to a home improvement store in Palmdale and shoplifted various items before leaving the store, according to evidence presented at his trial. When store security confronted him, he reportedly kicked and wrestled with two guards before they detained him, said Deputy District Attorney Eunice Kim. Bueno also allegedly had methamphetamine in his possession.

In June, Bueno was convicted of two felony counts of second-degree robbery and one misdemeanor count of possession of methamphetamine in connection with the Palmdale case.
