The city of Palmdale will host a celebration of life gathering on Oct. 25 in honor of Joe and Audie Davies. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Hwy.

The Davies each passed away this year (Audie on July 23 and Joe on Sept. 7) after 67 years together, and were each instrumental in the growth of Palmdale. Joe was a 30-year Air Force veteran who once served as a pilot and also the third commander of the US Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale. A Vietnam War veteran, Davies also worked for 21 years with Rockwell International on the B1-B and space shuttle projects. Additionally, he was also a Palmdale city councilman from 1988-1999.

He also served on the board of the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District, Antelope Valley Transit Authority, Antelope Valley United Way, the Antelope Valley Fair, and was a former president of the Antelope Valley Board of Trade. A park is named after him at 2001 E. Avenue P.

“Joe and Audie Davies have made many civic contributions and have been involved in our community for a long time,” said Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford. “This celebration of life will be a time for us to share with the Davies family how much we love and appreciate them.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Davis Heritage Airpark through the Palmdale Community Foundation at 38300 Sierra Highway, Palmdale, Calif. 93550. (661) 267-5440.
