Los Angeles County election officials said Tuesday they have begun mailing more than 1.8 million vote-by-mail ballots for the November election.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office noted that people can still request a vote-by-mail ballot online, or by filling out the form on the back of the sample ballot. Voters who have previously requested a vote-by-mail ballot can check on its status at www.lavote.net.

Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off ahead of the Nov. 8 election at any of 76 drop-off locations in the county. Voters who receive a mail ballot can still cast their ballot instead at a polling place on election day, but they must bring their vote-by-mail ballot with them and surrender it to poll workers, officials said.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 8, and they will be counted as long as they are received within three days.
