In conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, the city of Santa Clarita is hosting ARTober with an array of art-focused activities. Each Saturday this month residents can partake in a variety of free events taking place throughout the city in celebration of the arts.
The festival began last week with a workshop, “Art Tune Up,” which provided advice, consultation and information to individual artists and future practitioners allowing them to gain insight on a variety of topics. Tomorrow evening from 6 to 9 p.m. the “Elemental Experience” will take place at the Westfield Valencia Town Center. The evening will feature a unique sensory installation of wind, fire and water created by Idelle Okman Tyzbir.
“Public Art” is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road. This art installation is designed to showcase the allure of public art and will feature the “Western Tiger Swallowtail” created by LT Mustardseed. It will be a hands-on exhibition including interactive art activities, folkloric dancing, live music and for the first 100 children a live butterfly to take home.
“Launch Party” will culminate the festival on Oct. 22 at the Patios at Westfield Valencia Town Center. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and will recognize the launch of the city’s newest website SantaClaritaArts.com.
National Arts and Humanities Month is celebrated nationally each October. The objective is to have the public focus more on the arts at local, state and national levels thereby encouraging individuals and organizations to participate in the arts.
