Private funeral services were recently held for Connie Watson, who served more than 25 years as executive director of the South Los Angeles People Who Care Youth Center. A native of Nashville, Tenn., Watson used her skills and expertise in social work to help thousands of youth achieve self sufficiency beginning in the early 1990s as head of PWC, which was founded in 1974. She was recognized for her efforts in a number of ways including being named Woman of the Year in the 48th Assembly District and receiving the Founders Award at the Empowerment Congress’ 20th anniversary gala.
Watson succumbed to cancer of the cervix, lungs and bones and was interred in her home town. She was 65 year old.
