The city of Palmdale will conduct its latest Season of Service activity tomorrow with a “Spring Cleaning: SAVES Edition” event at South Antelope Valley Emergency Services, 1002 E. Avenue Q-12.

Registration will take place from 8 to 8:30 a.m. with the actual event extending until noon. City staff and community volunteers will partner with the students of AV YouthBuild and members of New Image Church to spruce up the service center.

Last year, Palmdale residents donated more than 40,000 hours of service in a series of volunteer opportunities stemming from Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This year, the city is promoting a “Serve or Give” campaign as a number of “wish lists” will be posted around town to allow individual residents and organizations to pitch in and improve the city.

“All it takes to volunteer is a willingness to give, an interest in your community, and your time,” said Trish Jones, supervisor of Palmdale community programs. “There is no minimum number of hours required—every hour donated is valuable. There’s practically no limit to how you can get involved.”

There are a few more service events scheduled:

April 2—Adopt-A-Block: Hammack Neighborhood. Community partners include the Palmdale Dream Center, Advancing Communities Together and New Image Church. Registration runs from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

April 16—Global Youth Service Day. Community partners are Youth Service America and State Farm. Registration: 8 to 8:30 p.m. Young people will be celebrating International Global Service Day.

May 14—Stamp Out Hunger. Community partner is the United States Postal Service. The location is the SAVES headquarters, 1002 E. Avenue Q-12. Local letter carriers will collect food for families in need.

Volunteers 16 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. All participants must complete a Release of Liability form, available at the event or online at www.cityofpalmdale.org.
