A man walked into a Marine recruitment center on Tuesday and brandished what authorities believe was a fake gun.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to a morning call about a business disturbance in the 44500 block of Valley Central Way, said Deputy Joshua Stamsek of the Lancaster station.
“The suspect walked in and out of the Marine Corps Office … then threatened the soldiers inside the office while simultaneously lifting his shirt up and brandishing the buttstock of a gun,” Stamsek said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, had been asked to leave during his last visit to the recruitment office due to his disruptive behavior, Stamsek said.
He fled the scene after brandishing the weapon, though deputies were able to detain him a short distance away, Stamsek said. They recovered an imitation firearm in the suspect’s waistband.
The suspect was under the influence of a controlled substance and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Stamsek said.
He is being held at the Lancaster station in lieu of $145,000 bail.
