ANAHEIM (CNS) – Fire caused by an errant firework destroyed a car and damaged a wooden fence and eaves of an Anaheim house, but no one was injured, authorities said today.

The fire was reported just after 9 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Bush Street, said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

About 15 firefighters from the Anaheim and Fullerton departments put out the flames in about 10 minutes, Wyatt said.

The cause of the fire was an errant firework, either a mortar or a launchable firework that landed and ignited a fire,” Wyatt said.

The damage was estimated to be about $30,000, Wyatt said.

Firefighters warn against the use of fireworks, particularly now, Wyatt said.

“Especially the dangerous ones that are completely illegal,” Wyatt said, adding that the peril is particularly acute now that “weather conditions are windy and dry.”
