Three families were displaced from their homes earlier this week, after a fire destroyed a common attic in a Santa Clarita apartment building.

The fire was reported at 12:34 a.m. Tuesday in the 27000 block of Sumac Court and started on the balcony of one of the units before extending into the attic, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Kyle Sanford.

Three units that shared the common attic space were affected, and the families living in them were displaced, Sanford said.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause was under investigation.
