Today is the deadline for those interested in entering the contest for the queen and royal court of the 32nd annual Kingdom Day Parade.
The contest is open to girls 17 to 24 years old who are full-time students, and active in the community. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. to the Congress of Racial Equality at 6230 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 500-A, Los Angeles 90048 or via e-mail at Sabra@kingdomparade.org.
The queen will selected based on the individual’s merit and will not consider race, religion, national ancestry, mental or physical ability.
Finalists will be notified by Dec. 29 to schedule a day and time for an interview which will last 15-20 minutes and will be scheduled between 6 and 8 p.m.
Applicants must wear business attire. The selected candidates will win scholarships—$1,000 for the queen and $500 for each princess.
Those selected will represent the community at functions requested by the parade committee including the 2017 Kingdom Day parade schedule for Jan. 16 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Applicants must submit an application, a typewritten essay not to exceed 500 words, and a recommendation from a teacher or community leader.
A brief description that includes your heritage, community involvement, future dreams/plans and how you can effectively be part of helping change the future according to Dr. Martin Luther King’s dreams.
In addition to the queen and her court, this year volunteer college students who are interested in literature, drama and writing are also invited to learn how to create in-depth profiles on each of the parade’s entries which will be read during the live presentation of the parade by announcers from ABC Channel 7.
Volunteers are also being sought to serve as parade monitors.
