Kern County Sheriff’s detectives launched an investigation this week into the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant girl in Rosamond.

Deputies on Monday responded to a call in the 8300 block of Stagecoach Lane and when they arrived the 1-month-old was not breathing. They performed CPR until EMTs arrived to transport the child to Antelope Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It is Sheriff’s department protocol to begin an investigation when a child dies suddenly, according to the Kern Sheriff’s Department. A news release issued Tuesday from the department stated, “Detectives are speaking with the parents of the child and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.”

An autopsy was scheduled this week to determine the cause and manner of death. The infant’s name was expected to be released by the coroner’s office.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at (661) 861-3110 or telephone Secret Witness at (661) 322-4040.
