It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Lancaster as “A Magical BLVD Christmas” takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow on The BLVD between Beech and Genoa avenues.
All of the excitement and cheer of the holiday season will be on display with attendees of all ages treated to seasonal entertainment, festive decorations and traditional Christmas activities. There will be numerous opportunities for shopping at the event’s unique “Christkindlmarkt” event and at many merchants along the thoroughfare.
“One of the beauties of the holiday season is how it brings people of all ages and backgrounds together,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “There is an increased emphasis on spending time with people who are important to you; families gather, friends throw Christmas parties, neighbors decorate their communities, and people spend time at special events such as this.”
The event has been a community favorite since 2010. Activities include taking an enchanting journey along the brightly-lit streets on the holiday train; making original crafts at Santa’s Workshop, stopping for seasonal short films on Date Avenue, and helping to create a holiday mural. There will be a live ice sculpting demonstration and real snow transported from the local mountains to allow children to sled the night away. New this year will be the North Pole Petting Zoo and Holiday Sleigh Ride.
At the Christkindlmarkt, hundreds of homemade crafts, goods and special seasonal items will available for purchase. City officials wish the evening to be an opportunity for residents to do their shopping in Lancaster, thereby helping to provide tax revenue for needed services throughout the year.
Expect to hear the Sunday Night Singers, Palmdale Chamber Singers, Quartz Hill High School a Cappella Choir, Calvary Chapel Church Choir, Antelope Valley Children’s Choir and Just Us 4. These groups will perform on the BeX Bandstand stage at Ehrlich Avenue, the Cedar stage, and at the outdoor stage at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center.
In conjunction with the event, the Antelope Valley Transportation Authority is conducting its annual “Stuff-A-Bus” holiday gift campaign throughout its service area. The bus will stop tomorrow on the BLVD with attendees encourages to bring new, unwrapped toys to provide Christmas gifts for children in need.
