The city of Palmdale is accepting applications for the 2016 fall session of the Palmdale Partners Academy, scheduled to begin Sept. 14. The sessions will continue on consecutive Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. through Nov. 2. Registration will conclude on Sept. 2.

“The eight-week Palmdale Partners Academy is designed to present citizens with a first-hand look at city operations and services,” said Trish Jones, Palmdale community programs coordinator. “The academy will help citizens gain a better understanding of local government, the community, the resources and how to get things done.”

Participants will have the opportunity to interact with city staff and learn about the challenges facing municipal governments as well as gain insight into Palmdale’s future goals and objectives.

“If you’ve ever wondered who decides what businesses come to town, or where does the funding come from to take care of the city, or how to present an idea to the city council, then the academy is for you,” Jones said.

The schedule of classes is as follows:

—Sept. 14, “The Greatest Story Ever Told” serves as an introduction to the city of Palmdale, its past, present and future;

—Sept. 21, “It Keeps You Runnin’” is a behind-the-scenes look at the administrative aspects of the city;

—Sept. 28, “If You Build It, They Will Come” will be an introduction to development services and the many departments responsible for the structural growth of the city;

—Oct. 5, “Clean Sweep, the Care and Maintenance of a City” takes a look at the programs and departments that keep the streets, buildings and parks clean and operational;

—Oct. 12, “Law and Order Palmdale” will review the city’s efforts to prevent crime and how the city works with the criminal justice system locally;

—Oct. 19, “Who Are the People in My Neighborhood” will be an overview of the Neighborhood Services Department, including crime prevention, housing, neighborhood outreach, park and code enforcement;
