The city of Lancaster, in collaboration with CalRecycle, tomorrow will host its latest free used oil and electronic waste recycling event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City Maintenance Yard, 615 W. Avenue H.
City officials encourage all residents of the Antelope Valley to bring their recyclable items including oil filters, e-waste (electronic items like televisions, computers, gadgets, etc.), cooking oil and labeled paint cans. Dumping these items into household trash is illegal in Los Angeles County, as well as detrimental to the environment. Officials urge citizens to help keep the Antelope Valley clean and healthy by bringing these items in for proper disposal. When these items are recycled, money gained is redirected to other community programs and activities in the region.
The event is strictly limited to household quantities, not businesses. Paint cans must be in their original container and have its label intact. Aerosol and craft paints, and nail polish will not be accepted. Also, mattresses will not be accepted either.
The Lancaster 24-Hour Recycling Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for recycling used motor oil, oil filters and e-waste. You can bring in used cooking oil, antifreeze and labeled paint cans from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The facility will not accept light bulbs, tires, gas appliances, furniture, gasoline, hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical waste, medical/biological waste, or sharp items like razors or needles.
