A pair of useful free workshops will take place tomorrow and on Aug. 15 at the Palmdale City Council chambers, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite B.

First up tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. is a homebuyer workshop, conducted in partnership with New Economics for Women. Attendees will learn about how to understand credit, how to properly read a credit report, mortgage financing options, down payment assistance programs, and ways to build and protect assets to be passed onto future generations.

On Aug. 15 at 7 p.m., the Palmdale Neighborhood Services Department will discuss emergency preparedness. The presentation will offer how-to information, educational presentations and materials on how to prepare for an emergency. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be present.

“The recent Sand Fire was an eye opener for many residents regarding their readiness to evacuate and/or shelter in place,” said Ruth Oschmann, Palmdale crime prevention officer. “We all need to be prepared whether it’s for a fire, earthquake or other disaster. Remember, it’s never too early to prepare, but it can be too late.”
