Free Recycling Event Tomorrow

The city of Lancaster, in collaboration with CalRecycle, will host tomorrow a free used oil and electronic waste (e-waste) collection event. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city’s maintenance yard, 615 W. Avenue H.

Residents of the Antelope Valley are encouraged to drive up and drop off items at the 24-hour recycling center, including used oil, oil filters, e-waste, cooking oil, and labeled paint cans. It is illegal in Los Angeles County to deposit such items in regular trash bins as they can be detrimental to the environment once they arrive at garbage dumps.

Lancaster officials want residents to know that the event is tailored specifically to household items. Paint cans must be in their original container and have its original label intact. Aerosol paints, craft paints or nail polish will not be accepted. As well, do not bring mattresses.

If you can’t attend the event, the recycling center is open “24/7” but they will not accept light bulbs, tires, gas appliances, furniture, gasoline, hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical waste, medical/biological waste or anything sharp, particularly needles.
