The Lancaster City Council presented outgoing Councilmember Ron Smith with the Key to the City. Smith, who has resigned, was elected to the council in 2006 after having served five years on the Lancaster Planning commission, four years of which he served as chairman.

“Ron Smith has devoted 15 years of his life towards serving our community. Whether it was on the planning commission or the city council, Ron worked tirelessly to improve the health and vitality of our community,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “Ron’s extensive experience and dedication, as well as his contagious spirit is very admirable. I wish Ron the best in all his future endeavors and look forward to all he will continue to offer our wonderful Valley.”

Prior to serving on the council, Smith was chairman of the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District, as well as being a member of the boards of the Antelope Valley Transit Authority and the High Desert Corridor joint-powers authority.

Smith served 13 years as a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and was once awarded Adjunct Faculty of the Year as an instructor at Antelope Valley College.
