Tracy Morgan is back. The popular comedian is set to make his triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” Oct. 17 by hosting the show during its 41st season.

Morgan’s return to NBC’s Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center follows a near-fatal car crash in 2014 which left him in critical condition. Morgan has also starred in NBC’s “30 Rock” comedy series.

It will be the second time that Morgan has hosted the show; he was a member of the ensemble cast from 1996-2003. Soon after the news broke that he would be hosting the show, the comedian said on Twitter he was “stoked to be going home.”

Morgan is still recovering from injuries sustained in the accident last year, when a Wal-Mart truck on the New Jersey Turnpike slammed into the back of a limousine-bus carrying him and others who were returning from a comedy show in Delaware. Comedy writer James McNair, a long-time friend of Morgan’s died in the accident. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken leg and broken ribs in the crash.

In June, Morgan spoke for the first time after the accident and told NBC’s Mat Lauer on “Today,”  “I can’t believe I’m here. I can’t believe I’m in front of you.” With his focus at the time on healing, Morgan added that he could not wait “to get back to comedy.”

“Saturday Night Live” debuted in the fall of 1975 and has become the most Emmy-nominated show of all time. The show celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year and actors Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, both of whom starred with Morgan on “30 Rock,” took the stage to honor their co-star.

“I wish my friend Tracy Morgan was here tonight, and I know that he was hoping he would be well enough to be here, too,” Fey said. “If he were here tonight, I’m sure Tracy would remind us that more than anything, he’d like to get us all pregnant.”
