The Palmdale Amphitheater will host the second annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K noncompetitive walk on Oct. 17.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with an opening ceremony scheduled for 7:45 a.m. and the walk beginning at 8 a.m. sharp.

“The event will take place rain or shine, so be sure to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately,” said Annie M. Pagliaro, Palmdale recreation supervisor. “The walk is not a race, and walkers do not need to complete the entire walk if unable. Upon finishing the walk, the grass area will be open for entertainment, refreshments and snacks.”

There will be a merchandise tent open beginning at 7 a.m. featuring Making Strides apparel, T-shirts and a variety of other items.

The walk is conducted in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; the American Cancer Society invites the Antelope Valley community to join the tens of thousands of walkers nationwide in the annual crusade to raise awareness and funds to help foster new research, treatment and an ultimate cure for breast cancer.

Some 300 communities across the nation are expected to raise funds for breast cancer research. Breast cancer remains the number-one public health concern facing women not only in the United States, but around the world in both developed and non-developed nations.
