Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25) held an awards ceremony this week to present a certificate of recognition to Alex Farrell, a high school student from Canyon Country, whose art took first place in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.

Over the past two months, students from around California’s 25th Congressional District submitted their artwork to the Congressional Art Competition to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol and to win a free trip to Washington, D.C. In late April, members of the area’s art communities evaluated the 40 submissions during a judging session held at FastFrame in Valencia. After narrowing the field to five pieces of art, they eventually selected Farrell’s piece as this year’s winner.

“It was incredibly exciting to receive so many excellent submissions this year,” Knight said. “I want to thank all the participants and congratulate Alex on being selected to represent California’s 25th District at the capitol.”

Farrell, a senior at Bowman High School in Valencia, submitted a graphite picture of President Abraham Lincoln. He will travel to the nation’s capitol in June to attend an unveiling ceremony and reception.
