Honor set for veteran pastor

Pastor David Buggs of Central Baptist Church in Carson this month will turn 90 and the congregation will fete the veteran minister on March 29 at 10 a.m. with a morning of song and tribute.

Pastor Buggs is a well known and respected spiritual leader in Carson and has served the area in a ministerial capacity for more than 40 years. Pastor Buggs also serves as a civilian volunteer assisting with law enforcement functions at the Carson sheriff’s sub-station. While serving as pastor of the 1,000-plus member church, Pastor Buggs worked also as a nuclear weapons specialist at the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach and eventually retired from that position. An Army veteran of World War II, Buggs saw active duty from Dec. 6, 1944 to Dec. 2, 1946.

Married 64 years to Mavis Buggs, the couple has five children and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“The birthday celebration is a way to express love for services rendered by this mighty man of God,” said church associate Marcia Wilson.

Central Baptist Church is located at 1641 E. Carson St., Carson.
