Compton Unified School District (CUSD) is creating a new school for students who are motivated to finish high school and their first two years of college at the same time. Called Early College School, the facility is a collaboration between El Camino College Center and the CUSD and will begin with 100 to 120 ninth graders during the 2015-16 school year. The school will add one grade each annually until a complete 9-12 configuration is achieved.

Youth in grades nine and 10 will take high school courses and in the next two grades will take college courses that interest them. They can graduate either with an associates degree or 20 to 30 college credits.

According to JaMaiia Bond, Compton’s senior director of educational services, the classes are a little more work and students may attend school a little longer each day.

Interested young people must live in Compton and submit an application then participate in an interview.

To find out about the test date, call (310) 639-4321 ext. 55253.
