Shead will host football camp

DeShawn Shead will conduct a free Youth Skills Football Camp tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at Domenic Massari Park, 37715 55th St. East in Palmdale.

Shead, a member of the 2015 NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks, once played prep ball at Highland High.

The camp is designed for youth ages 8 to 17 years and will focus on speed/agility, expressiveness, hand/eye coordination, flexibility/mobility, body control and advanced footwork. Check-in is at 8 a.m. and lunch will be provided. Space is reportedly limited.

In high school, Shead was a two-time all-     conference defensive back. He was also named winner of the 2006 National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete award and also holds the school’s pole vault record.

After high school, Shead attended Portland State University on a scholarship where he was a four-year starter as a defensive back. During his NCAA career, Shead had 211 tackles, 11 interceptions, five fumble recoveries and also returned kickoffs. Shead was an All-Big Sky selection in his senior year. The Seahawks signed Shead as a rookie free agent in April 2012. He was a member of the team’s Super Bowl XLVIII victory squad against the Denver Broncos.
