The William J. “Pete” Knight Veterans Home of California-Lancaster continues to accept residents. The 60-bed facility is located at 45221 30th St. West in Lancaster.

The veterans home opened in November 2010 and serves as an “assisted living” facility, providing California veterans with a comfortable living environment that is designed to protect their dignity and contribute to their feeling of self-reliance and self-worth.

Residents at the assisting living level are said to require minimal help and supervision; some services offered may include care by licensed nurses.

Among the amenities are room and board (three meals plus snacks), assistance with medical and dental needs, assistance with medications, a fitness center and exercise classes, as well as a library. Residents also enjoy cable television, wireless Internet access, and housekeeping and laundry services. The facility also provides transportation to medical appointments, and there are a variety of day trips.

Veterans Homes of California are also located in West Los Angeles, Ventura, Barstow, Chula Vista and in Yountville. Facilities are under construction in Fresno and in Redding.

Veterans considering assisted living are encouraged to apply for residency; spouses are also eligible to apply.
