The city of Palmdale’s neighborhood services department, along with deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s station, will host a neighborhood watch orientation presentation on June 23 at 7 p.m. at the city council chamber, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite B.

The orientation is designed to answer questions about neighborhood watch practices and to describe how it works and helps residential areas.

“We’re encouraging residents who are not currently involved in the city’s Neighborhood Watch Program to bring their families to learn about the program and to find out how to identify ways they can help to prevent crime,” said Ruth Oschmann, Palmdale crime prevention officer. “Come and share your ideas and concerns on neighborhood safety and learn what you can do to help maintain a crime-free environment in your neighborhood.”

Oschmann’s remarks were echoed by fellow crime prevention officer Kery German who said, “Neighborhood Watch is the best and easiest way to learn not only about crime trends, but also disaster preparedness, home security and personal safety.”

“This is a great way to meet your neighbors, other Palmdale residents, your crime prevention officer and your community deputy,” said Kelly Long, Palmdale community safety supervisor.
