The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Building Program will host a free six-week training program to encourage smaller-sized contractors to participate in the district’s $6 billion program to modernize the nine LACCD colleges and other facilities. Today is the deadline to apply.

The “Small Contractor Boot Camp” at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, beginning on Feb. 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will provide small contractors with the tools necessary to improve their competitive capacity through a comprehensive, hands-on curriculum.

“This boot camp is another example of our commitment to not only “provide great value to our taxpayers by insisting on the highest quality management and construction, but also ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the building program,” said LACCD Board of Trustees President Scott J. Svonkin. “We still have more than a quarter of our building program to complete, so there are many opportunities for high-quality small contractors. And since small and local businesses are the heart of what drives the economy, we need to do all we can to help them be able to compete.”

Each weekly seminar will cover a different aspect of becoming a Build LACCD contractor. Subjects include bonding and certification, estimating, scheduling, and labor compliance. A flyer describing the boot camp in detail is available online at www.build-laccd.org. For more information, (213) 593-8041, LSEDVInfo@build-laccd.org.

An application is also available at the link as well.

The LACCD Board of Trustees has established a 30 percent goal for the participation of local, small, emerging and disabled veteran-owned (LSEDV) businesses in the building program. Events such as the Boot Camp enable LACCD to expand its pool of such businesses to perform work throughout the district.
