Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25) will host a free workshop and expo for local small business owners on Aug. 25 in Santa Clarita. The workshop will take place 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city of Santa Clarita Activities Center, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

Small business owners from around the community are invited to learn about new tactics to navigate federal regulations and rules to win government contracts, increase their access to capital, and boost their sales overseas. The event will feature guest speakers, expert panels and a resource fair each of which will be focused on the theme of federal government empowerment of the small business community.

“As a member of the House Committee on Small Business, it is important for me to hear firsthand how I can best serve our community’s entrepreneurs,” Knight said. “This is an excellent opportunity (for them) to learn about and connect with the resources they need to thrive.”

Terry Paulson, Ph.D., a motivational speaker, and Vivian Shimoyama of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program, will speak at the event.

After the speeches, the audience will receive guidance on working with the federal government to enhance business operations from a panels of experts. Representatives from the U.S. Army, the Defense Logistics Agency, and Northrop Grumman will offer insights and tools needed to work with the federal contracting process. Payal Kamdar, founder of Vsolvit, a geographic information systems firm in Ventura, will discuss the best means for obtaining conventional and alternative financing. There will also be representatives from the Port of Los Angeles, the Department of Commerce and the Small Business Administration U.S. Export Assistance Center.

The event will conclude with an expo in which small business owners will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with government agencies and companies that can help them achieve their individual business needs.
