Johnnie Mae Ricks dies at 92

Johnnie Mae Ricks was born July 20, 1921 to Ernest Nixon and Rosie Lee Kimbrough of Palestine, Texas. Upon graduation from high school and technical college she met and married Link Webster Ricks. To that union four children were born, three of which preceded her in death.

Ricks was a dedicated advocate and supporter of civil rights, voting rights, higher education, foster care, family preservation and seniors’ issues.

Ricks was also an active and long-time resident of the Ninth Council District and Second Supervisorial District. She actively participated in AD-59 and SD-26 Democratic Delegate elections.

Ricks leaves to mourn a son, Dr. Boris E. Ricks and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 4269 S. Figueroa St., L.A.
