The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks offers free lunches to kids and teens ages 1 through 18 at more than 100 parks from June 9-Aug. 8.

Persons with disabilities, who are 19 years and older, can also participate as long as they are enrolled in a special school district program during the school year.

No application or proof of income is needed to participate. Just bring the child to one of the participating City of Los Angeles parks.

Please note that park staff plan and order lunches based on the daily number of kids that come to their sites. Therefore, in the event your child does not receive a meal because there is a shortage of lunches, let the staff know so they can plan to order more lunches the next day.

Also, parents of children ages 1-5 may sit with their child to assist them with opening their packages. However, staff have the option to not allow parents in the eating area, if program rules are not followed.

Finally, meals must be eaten on site.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank feeds approximately 6,600 children daily during the summer with the Kids Café Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

The Kids Cafe program addresses the needs for both proper nutrition and quality day- and after-school care in low-income communities for young people in elementary school through age 18.

Kids café was founded in 1993 by Feeding America and is the nation’s largest charitable meal service program exclusively for needy children. There are nearly 120 food banks operating Kids Cafes sites throughout the country.

The Kids Cafe will be held locally at school sites and are open to walk-ins but others require prior registration. Visit the foodbank website to the nearest Kids Cafe nearby: www.fns.usda.gov/summerfoodrocks.

The Los Angeles County Summer Lunch and Snack program will also provide free lunches for youth 18 and younger for six weeks beginning June 23.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. and snacks are provided from 3-5 p.m.

Young people just need to be at the nearest participating park at meal time. For a list of the parks, visit the website www.parks.lacounty.gov or call (310) 965-8630 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
