Affectionately called ‘Mother Johnson,’ Allie-Glee was born and educated in Mississippi, where she meet the love of her life—Charles Johnson. The two have been married for 59 years and have nine children: Dorothy, Charles, Earlean, Odessa, Lillie, Annie, Sandra, Samuel and James.
As a woman of integrity committed to her vow as a “help meet,” Allie Glee entered the workforce in Mississippi, sharecropping her husband’s family land with her oldest children in-toe. Charles, desiring a better future for his family, moved to Los Angeles, and Allie and their three youngest children relocated as well. In an effort to stay near her smallest children, Allie became a small business woman, taking in laundry for five cents a shirt. When the children entered school; Allie seized the opportunity for greater earning power and transitioned to work outside the home. She cared for homes and children in the Westwood area, where she was loved and respected until retirement. An avid saver, she added a master suite to her home and purchased a car—all in cash.
Allie Glee Johnson continues to serve as an excellent role model for her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years she has shared her love for the Lord, as a prayer warrior, bible student, and worshiper; her love for food through gardening, cooking, baking and raising chickens (yes, in L.A.); and, her love for her neighbors, and fellow New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church members as a “Mother” in the church. Allie Glee Johnson, a woman of great faith, wealth and prosperity, is a living legacy of faithfulness, and her family is excited to celebrate her 90th birthday today with the theme: “90-Years of Love, Prayer and Patience.”
