Santa Clarita Public Library events set

‘Bag Sale’ and ‘Celebration of Local Authors’ planned at all three branches

OW Staff Writer | 1/10/2014, midnight

The Friends of the Santa Clarita Public Library will offer a special lineup of January events to celebrate the first quarter of 2014. Residents can purchase discounted books at a Bag Sale held at all three library branches and rub elbows with more than 30 local authors at the first annual “Celebration of Local Authors” at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy branch.

From Jan. 13 to 16, community members can stop by the Valencia, Old Town Newhall and Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy branches during business hours to browse a fantastic selection of books at the Bag Sale. Participants can scout their favorite titles, fill a commemorative book bag with their finds, and take home the books and bag for just $7.

Additionally, each of the libraries will also accept donations of previously-owned books. All proceeds from the Bag Sale will benefit the Santa Clarita Public Library.

Then, on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members are invited to meet some of Santa Clarita’s most acclaimed writers at the “Celebration of Local Authors.”

This free event will highlight 32 local authors with moderated panel discussions, book signings, a book sale and more. Authors in attendance will include historians EJ Stephens and Kim Stephens, youth and young adult authors Sarah Skilton and Janet Squires, romance novelist T.K. Leigh, and many more.

The Friends of Santa Clarita Public Library is an active group of Santa Clarita residents who volunteer, advocate and fundraise to meet the needs of the Santa Clarita Public Library. All of the proceeds from the bag sale, fundraising events and programs sponsored by the Friends of the Library go towards providing new materials and programming at the Santa Clarita Public Library.
