During Tuesday’s city council meeting, the new AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer team was introduced and welcomed to the city of Lancaster. The team consists of five recent college graduates who will be devoting their efforts to several innovative, community service projects over the course of their one-year term with the city.

Two of the VISTA volunteers, Kellie Cunningham and Lauren Berryhill, will be dedicating their efforts to growing the City’s OneLINC program, an online networking tool that provides volunteer-seeking groups and prospective volunteers a platform to ‘lead, inspire and connect’ with one another. The program was launched five months ago by the City of Lancaster’s original VISTA team and is already being utilized by a number of non-profit organizations and volunteers throughout the region.

The other three VISTA volunteers, Johanzynn Gatewood, Kaylin Kim, and Rodolfo “Rudy” Rodriguez, will work in collaboration with the non-profit community to develop a new community-wide health and wellness initiative. This initiative will improve awareness of and access to health and wellness resources throughout the Antelope Valley.
