A murder charge was filed on Tuesday against a Lancaster resident who allegedly used a hunting bow-and-arrow to kill a man who tried to intervene in a domestic argument in Lancaster.

Garrett Taylor Adams, 23, is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 9 at the Lancaster courthouse in connection with the Aug. 23 killing of Charles Briggs, 27, also of Lancaster. The violence allegedly occurred at about 3:30 a.m. at a residence in the 43000 block of 27th Street West, said sheriff’s deputy Ryan Rouzan. Adams had allegedly been arguing with his girlfriend at the location, according to Rouzan.

“The suspect’s brother and a friend, later identified as the victim, arrived at the residence and tried to intervene,” Rouzan said. “The dispute continued outside onto the sidewalk, where the suspect armed himself with a hunting bow-and-arrow, shooting the victim once in the upper torso.”

Adams was arrested about approximately 3:50 a.m. Saturday by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

If convicted, Adams faces a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s office.
