The city of Carson will hold a public meeting Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. at the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center, 801 E. Carson St., in Community Halls ABC, to inform residents and interested parties about the update to the city’s Oil and Gas Code.

On May 20, the city council directed staff to update the Carson Municipal Code, including Section 9148.2, Oil Wells. The city has hired Marine Research Specialists (MRS) to assist with this effort. At this meeting, MRS will  present the topics to be incorporated into the code update including but not limited to: types of permitted drilling methods; prohibition of hydraulic fracturing; environmental impacts of drilling to air, water, and soil; proximity of oil drilling to residential areas; abandoned oil wells; earthquakes; public health; and transportation of oil and gas.

This will be the first of two community meetings before the city’s Revised Oil and Gas Code is scheduled for public hearings before the planning commission and city council later this year. All persons interested in this topic who have questions or would like to provide feedback are invited to attend the workshop.
