LOS ANGELES, Calif. — First Lady Michelle Obama has canceled fundraising trips to Los Angeles and San Francisco in light of the federal government standoff.

The first lady was set to be at the Hancock Park home of “Everybody Loves Raymond” creator Philip Rosenthal Friday for a $32,000 per plate Democratic National Committee fundraiser. She was to host an hourlong current affairs discussion with donors. A reception, with invited guests paying $1,250 to $10,000, also was planned.

A fundraising brunch scheduled Sunday at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco with House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and aimed at helping Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives was also canceled, as were two other Bay area fundraisers.

Previously, President Barack Obama canceled a Sept. 9 fundraiser at the home of “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman due to the crisis in Syria.
