LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A UCLA football player was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault at an apartment complex near the campus, university officials said today.
Torian White, 20, was arrested by campus police who went to the Glenrock Avenue building on a report of a disturbance about 3 a.m. Sunday.
White was booked into the Twin Towers Correctional Facility near downtown Los Angeles, according to the sheriff’s Inmate Information Center website.
Police presented the case on Monday to prosecutors for consideration of charges, but prosecutors asked officers to conduct additional information, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
It was not immediately clear if White had been released from custody.
“We are aware of the situation involving Torian White, and we take these accusations very seriously,” UCLA football coach Jim Mora said in a statement issued by the university.
“Torian has been suspended from the team indefinitely while the legal process and student discipline process run their course,” Mora said. “Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to discuss this matter further at this time.”
White, who has attended UCLA since the fall 2011 semester, is an offensive lineman for the Bruins, but has not played since injuring his right leg during the team’s Oct. 3 game at Utah, according to the university.
