Winners of the Ford Freedom Unsung Award were announced on June 18 at the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live in Los Angeles and included such organizations as the Gang Alternatives Program, Jenesse Center Inc., New Directions for Veterans, A New Way of Life Reentry Project and Starting Over Inc. In the Community category, the award recipients were Wilfred “Bill” Coggins, Rita Hall, Sherri Pegues, Areva Martin and William Allen Young; in the Education category, the recipients were Angela M. Evans, Haywood Galbreath, Darlene Jernigan, E. Elaine Moore and Derek Richardson; in the Military category, the recipients were Patricia Jackson Kelley and Ivan Mason; in the Youth category, the recipients were Justice Reigns Ferguson, Shauniece Frazier and Carey Poindexter.
